When You Were Perfect

When you were perfect you averted your eyes choosing a truth that was the most harmful of lies when you were perfect

you could not accept

being you was already more than what others expect

when you were perfect

you defeated your heart walking a path of unworthiness that led you afar

distant from love, from confidence, from life

suffering alone in your darkness and strife when you were perfect you were absolute in thought, you would never possess the perfection you sought your years were lived as fragments of you until the moment of your last breath when you finally knew you had robbed the world of your being and grace

and you had been absolutely perfect, all of your days
